Monitoring took place within the Zones of Archaeological Potential for Cahir, Clonmel and Carrick-on-Suir from 10 to 12 December 2014. The monitoring was governed by installation of heritage signage in the three towns associated with the introduction of the Butler Heritage Trail. The project was conducted by Community and Enterprise Department of Tipperary County Council.

Hand excavation took place of foundation pads 0.6m by 0.6m and 0.8m in depth. The national grid references for the three pads excavated in Cahir were S0508524720; S0520924761 and S0528823994. The two in Clonmel were at S2008422315 and S20420 22270. The five in Carrick-on-Suir were at S4028021830; S4045021624; S3985121500; S4023021365 and S3956521832.

In general the stratigraphy consisted of concrete path surface, bedding layer, mixed modern debris on to natural subsoil. No archaeology was encountered during the project.
