Service trenching in and around the OPW Depot in Hogan Square, and ground reduction within the shell of the OPW building, was monitored in late 2013 and early 2014.
Trenching behind the courthouse did not reach medieval levels. Trenching at the junction of Hogan Square and Main Street cut into subsoil directly under recent material, and the monitored lowering of ground inside the depot building on the corner found traces of likely post-medieval garden features cut into subsoil but no medieval building remains. The present depot building appears to be a military guardhouse of the 18th or early 19th century, with an extension added before the middle of the 19th century.
