The site is located in close proximity to SL018:042 Megalithic Tomb - Wedge Tomb which is 32.7m north of the site boundary and c. 45m north-north-west of the northern gable wall of the main dwelling.
The site is located to the south of the N59 Ballina to Sligo road and to the west of a small road off the N59. There are good views towards the Ox mountains to the south and towards the coast to the north. The site is located within good undulating pastureland; there is no overgrowth, the grass is well-grazed giving good visibility across the site and towards megalithic tomb.
There is no above ground evidence for any archaeological features within the area for development. The tomb itself is in reasonable condition with many of the orthostats still in situ.

Seven test trenches were excavated across the footprint of development. Testing did not indicate any evidence for archaeological artefacts or deposits.

Given that development is in close proximity to SL018-042 Megalithic Tomb – Wedge Tomb it was recommended that the northern and western boundary of the site be marked out and fenced off prior to any construction works on the site. It was also recommended that no construction traffic should be allowed in the area to the north of the site, no materials should be stored in this area and no dumping of construction material or soil deposits should take place to the north.
