Unlicensed monitoring took place on 15 October 2014 of topsoil stripping associated with the development of an extension to a forest access road within a forestry plantation located within the townland of Drumdaff, Keadew, Co Roscommon. The extension to the access road is located within close proximity to a ringfort (RO002-019) and (RO002-019001), a house site. The proposed access road is located outside of a 20m buffer zone which Coillte have established around the two monuments.
Monitoring took place of the topsoil stripping along part of the proposed route with the remainder of the new access road to be constructed on fill material above the current ground level. The topsoil was removed to a depth of between 0.15m to 0.25m along the route and no subsurface features or deposits of an archaeological nature were identified.
