Monitoring was carried out on two sites in Ardnanagh, Roscommon as part of the development of a Civic Headquarters and car park. The programme of works was carried out by Faith Bailey with the assistance of Dave Swift and Mark Moraghan of IAC Ltd. The two development sites are located within the zone of archaeological potential for Roscommon Town (RO039-043). Several programmes of testing and excavation have been carried out within both sites since 2000. Site 1 was assessed in 2002 where the remains of the early 19th-century gaol were identified. This was followed by two periods of excavation, which identified elements of the remains of the gaol and also established that most of the gaol had previously been removed in the 1960s during a redevelopment of the site for a Garda Station and civic offices. Site 2 was tested in 2011 but did not identify any archaeological features or deposits. Monitoring was carried out as part of the development between February and May 2014. Fragmentary remains of some gaol walls were identified at Site 1 along with some stone drainage features. Nothing of archaeological interest was identified within Site 2.
