Monitoring took placeof the excavation of post-holes for a new post and rail wooden fence at Durrow Abbey, Co. Offaly. Durrow Abbey is a National Monument and monitoring was requested by the National Monuments Service in a condition attached to the Ministerial Consent issued for the works (C002). The excavation of the post-holes was carried out by OPW staff using a mini excavator fitted with a 0.2m diameter auger. Each excavated post-hole measured 0.2m in diameter and 0.3-0.4m in depth. No features or deposits other than the topsoil were identified during the monitoring of the post holes and no finds were recovered.
