Monitoring was undertaken along the route of the Bord Gáis Networks Newtownfane to Haynestown Gas Pipeline, Co. Louth. The pipeline route passed through three townlands: Newtownfane, Dunmahon and Haynestown. The majority of this route was greenfield and monitoring involved a continuous watching brief throughout the entire works.

Three sites were identified during the course of monitoring works, two of which—an isolated pit (BGN Dunmahon 1) and a charcoal-rich pit (BGN Newtownfane 1)—were excavated under the monitoring licence.

One site was fully excavated under a separate licence (BGN Dunmahon 2: Licence No. 14E335). BGN Dunmahon 2 comprised a series of charcoal-rich pits one of which contained prehistoric pottery. These were associated with a thin charcoal-flecked deposit.

Post-excavation works and the reports are due to be completed for these sites in early 2016.
