Stage (i) (a-1), (a-2), (c), (k) testing was undertaken in advance of construction of the N59 Moycullen Bypass, Co. Galway on behalf of Galway County Council and the National Roads Authority.
A total of 26,682 square metres of archaeological test trenches were excavated across the bypass scheme and at one location of potential a further 3,390 square metres was topsoil stripped by machine. Nine sites were identified - Killarainy 1-7, Clydagh 1 and Ballyquirke East 1. Killarainy 6 and 7 and Clyadgh 1 were isolated hearths excavated during testing.
The remaining sites were subject to subsequent excavation - E4575-E4580.
