Belgard Castle, with an existing classic Irish country house structure, dates largely to the second half of the 18th century, however there are remnants of a late medieval castle present. The house and surrounding buildings are now the offices for Cement Roadstone Holdings. Monitoring was carried out during excavation of the raft foundation for a 16 sq m cafĂ© extension, between ancillary buildings known as ‘The Mews’ and ‘The Stables’. 0.45m of hard brown clay was removed which presented no inclusions or archaeology.
