Monitoring of the excavation of service trenches and new pathways was undertaken in the graveyard to the rear (south side) of St Catherine’s Church. This revealed human skeletons close to the surface in a number of places and the plan and level of the proposed trenches and pathways were altered to avoid disturbing them. The remains of the walls of former 18th- and 19th-century buildings on the south and west street fronts of the site were also noted in the base of some of the trenches but these were also not disturbed by the works.
