A topographical survey and monitoring of topsoil stripping was undertaken in July 2014 on the site of a new pumping station as part of the Balbriggan/ Skerries WWTS. The pumping station is sited on the Dublin Road, Balbriggan. A holding tank will be located to the east of the pumping station in the area now occupied by a public car park. The two locations are separated by the well-preserved remains of the 19th-century head race that supplied water to a former corn mill (now apartments) to the north (DU005-050). The 19th-century mill complex is believed to occupy the site of a 17th-century mill recorded in the Down and Civil Surveys. Topsoil was mechanically excavated using a 2m-wide grading bucket. Topsoil was 0.3m deep (max) and overlaid compact brownish yellow clay subsoil. No archaeological finds or features were recorded.
