Monitoring was carried out for a new road with associated services at Dominick Place, Dublin 1, in response to planning conditions attached to the development by Dublin City Council (Part VIII Planning). The area of development is located immediately outside the zone of archaeological potential for Dublin City (DU018-020); however there are only two recorded sub-constraints located within 250m of the area. Sixteen buildings on Dominick Street are Protected Structures including Nos 20–24 Dominick Street which are located to the immediate north.

Monitoring revealed a series of Georgian basements and cellars associated with three properties that formally fronted onto both Dominick Street Lower and Dominick Place. These properties are clearly depicted on the 1906–9 mapping for the area. The basements and cellars identified here were recorded and surveyed by GPS. No further archaeological mitigation was recommended in respect of this road development. It was noted however that some sub-surface basement levels will survive in situ (beneath the new road) and that the cellars survive in situ either side of the development footprint. These results should inform any future development in adjacent areas.
