The green field site adjacent to the junction of Balheary Avenue and the R108 road (to Naul) is approximately 0.45 ha in area. Testing was undertaken on May 8 2014 in inclement conditions. Five trenches totalling 100m were excavated across the site. Topsoil was removed by a 4-tonne mechanical excavator fitted with a grading bucket under supervision. Due to the compact nature of topsoil and the size of the machine, a smaller bucket was fitted in advance of excavating the final 2 trenches. Subsoil consisted of a mid to light orange brown stony clay.
No archaeological material was identified.
