Monitoring was undertaken as part of the Luas Cross City (LCC) Heritage Works contract for the Railway Procurement Agency (RPA). The contract was designed to identify previously unrecorded sub-surface archaeological stratigraphy which will be impacted by the construction of LCC. One licence, covering from Grafton Street to O’Connell Street, was provided for under the contract (Licence No. 13E0353). The results of this work are detailed under a separate entry. Works related to the Parnell National Monument (RPS 6127) were carried out in accordance with Ministerial Consent C.592 (E4492). Four cast iron bollards located in the central median in O’Connell Street and within the curtilage of the Parnell Monument were removed under supervision. This is within the zone of archaeological potential of two Recorded Monuments namely the historic town of Dublin (RMP DU018:020) and a Viking cemetery site (RMP DU0180:020495). No archaeological material was recorded in the course of this work.
