Excavation and monitoring were undertaken at Deanestown, Co. Dublin for the National Sports Campus Development Agency in advance of the development of GAA pitches.
A single area of archaeological significance was excavated on 22 and 23 April 2014. The excavated remains represented the heavily truncated remains of a burnt mound and associated trough and pit, dated to the early Bronze Age period(QUB, UBA 26859, 2 Sigma 1917–1747 BC).
Burnt mounds are one of the most commonly identified monuments identified in the country and the features at Deanestown have added little to our previous understanding of the site type but conform generally to current understandings of function, form and date. The site is of local significance given the few previous sites from the area dating to the early Bronze Age.
Continuous monitoring of topsoil stripping was undertaken for the entire site during April 2014. No further sites of archaeological significance were identified.
