An archaeological evaluation was carried out prior to the proposed construction of an anaerobic digestion facility on lands approximately 70m north of 2, The Cottages, Mourne Park, Kilkeel. The proposed development site is located within the historic demesne of Mourne Park (NI Garden Register D-39). Two archaeological monuments are also contained within the historic garden and in close proximity of the development site: a court tomb, DOW 055:022, and a standing stone, DOW 055:023.
A series of three test trenches were excavated across the footprint of the proposed development using a back-acting machine fitted with a toothless bucket.
No evidence of any archaeological deposits was identified during the course of the evaluation.
