An archaeological evaluation was carried out prior to the proposed construction of a commercial development at Shepherds Way, Newry.
The evaluation consisted of the excavation of 7 test trenches across the site. All trenches measured approximately 2.3m wide and were excavated to glacial subsoil which varied between grey/brown silty boulder clay containing frequent stone and sandy orange/brown clay containing some stone. Subsoil was generally overlain by made ground consisting of compacted stone with a surface level of compacted hardcore though a small area of concrete was encountered at south.
No evidence of any archaeological deposits was identified during the course of the evaluation.
