The trial trenching revealed that the site has been extensively disturbed by the factory development that had previously occupied the site, and that the area that falls under the Phase 3a section was probably subject to a full topsoil strip and ground clearance at that time. The number of sewers, manholes and cable trenches that cross the site would also have destroyed any archaeology if it was ever present.
