Monitoring of river cleaning works in Bandon, Co. Cork, was undertaken as an interim measure in advance of a major flood relief scheme. The works comprised a reduction of a c.50m stretch of the river bed to the level recorded on 30 September 2010. The works were located within the Zone of Archaeological Potential established around the Historic Town of Bandon (CO110:19) and Bandon Bridge (CO110:19009). The level of the river bed was incrementally reduced by a mechanical excavator under supervision. Twenty-five ceramic sherds were recovered from the riverine gravels. The assemblage comprised fourteen sherds of Irish glazed red earthenware, eight sherds of white pearl-ware, one basal sherd of black glazed earthenware and two sherds of hand decorated pearl ware.
