Two pits were uncovered inside the site entrance when the boundary ditch was removed. Both The pit on the west side of the entrance was rectangular, measuring c.1m (north-south) by 0.75m. The pit was filled with a mix of charcoal and stones, not too dissimilar from fulacht fiadh material. The second pit was circular in plan measuring c.2m in diameter. The fill comprises a light grey silty clay with a moderate amount of charcoal flecks and small sized stones. The third pit feature is situated c.5m to the south. The features have been planned, photographed and their GPS locations noted. At the request of the client and in compliance with condition 19 of the grant of planning permission, this excavation license was requested. The client has since reconsidered their position and the situation awaits resolution.
