Unlicensed archaeological monitoring was carried out at a residential development site in Clonrobin, Kilbrin, Kanturk, Co. Cork. A number of archaeological features were identified in the course of archaeological monitoring. The finds were confined to the proposed entrance area into the development site. The area measures approximately 14m east-west by 17m north-south.
Three pit features and a burnt spread, possibly the remnants of a fulachta fiadh were found within the entrance area. Two pits were uncovered inside the site entrance to the left (west) and right hand sides (East). The pit on the west side of the entrance was rectangular in shape, measuring c.1m (N-S) by 0.75m (E-W). The pit was filled with a mix of charcoal and stones, not too dissimilar from Fulachta Fiadh material. The second pit was circular in plan measuring c.2m in diameter. The fill comprises a light grey silty clay with a moderate amount of charcoal flecks and small sized stones. The third pit feature was situated c.5m to the south and was also circular in plan. A large spread of burnt stone material was found at the southern end of the entrance avenue.
