Testing of a proposed single house site at Ballyphilip, White’s Cross, Co. Cork was carried out on foot of a further information request from the planning authority. Five test trenches were excavated on the site in areas where most ground disturbance is likely to take place as part of the development, i.e. house footprint, driveway, and percolation area. The trenches measured 1.2 – 1.5m in width and varied in depth from 0.3m to 0.35m. All trenches were excavated to the level of the underlying natural subsoil which consisted of an orange loose stoney material. No archaeological finds, features or deposits were uncovered in any of the trenches.
