Test trenching was undertaken at the proposed site of a single dwelling house, 3.7km north of Ballinascarthy, in the townland of Maulnarouga North, on 21 October 2014. This was 150m upslope of a fulacht fiadh (CO109-050).

A total of eight trenches were excavated across the footprint of the proposed development—a total of 101m linear metres. The topsoil was an average of 0.3m in thickness, over clay subsoil. Modern plough-furrows were noted in places. Nothing of archaeological significance was identified.
