Testing took place of a proposed VEC building on a green-field site located north of Carrigaline village, Co. Cork on a south-east facing slope between 40–60m OD. The site contained three recorded monuments: a ringfort (CK086-054) and two fulachta fiadh (CK086-055001-2). A further potential fulacht fia was identified during a preliminary archaeological appraisal of the site, while a geophysical survey (13R95) identified a relict 19th-century field system and a possible ring ditch. Nine trenches with a total length of 800m were excavated within the site. Subsoil was stiff orange till, with outcropping of bedrock in areas. Two archaeological sites were identified. A shallow ring ditch corresponded to the previously identified geophysical anomaly. The geophysics and testing results are very similar and indicate a well-defined circular gully (12m x 10m). A further disturbed burnt mound (23m x 8m x 0.4m deep) was identified in the area of the recorded fulachta fia.
