Testing of three areas along the proposed Timoleague-Courtmacsherry Sewerage Scheme was carried out in September 2014. Testing was undertaken on foot of the recommendations of an archaeological assessment of the proposed WWTP site and a report on the results of monitoring of Site Investigations associated with the scheme. Three areas along the scheme route were subject to testing, namely the WWTP and pipeline/access road, the pipe route adjacent to Abbeymahon Cistercian abbey (CO136-030-003) and the pipe route opposite Timoleague Friary (CO123-050-002, National Monument No. 21). The testing of the WWTP and associated pipeline and the testing adjacent to Abbeymahon Cistercian abbey was carried out under Licence 13E341, while testing near to Timoleague Friary was completed under Ministerial Consent C576 (E4479). A total of thirteen trenches were excavated in the WWTP and along the associated pipeline in the green field site. No archaeological finds, features or deposits were uncovered. One trench was excavated on the public road adjacent to Abbeymahon Cistercian abbey and no archaeological finds, features or deposits were noted. Three trenches were excavated along the proposed pipeline route adjacent to Timoleague Friary. No finds, features or deposits relating to the friary or any other material of archaeological nature was uncovered.
