Testing was carried out at Sliguff, Bagenalstown, Co. Carlow as part of a pre-planning archaeological assessment with regards the construction of a small dwelling house. The development lands are located on a slight rise or plateau, 4km south of Bagenalstown. Although there are no recorded monuments in the development lands there is a ringfort (CW019:005) approximately 70m south-east of the development lands on the opposite site of a small road/lane. Two cist burials excavated by the National Museum and one possible ring ditch as well as an enclosure are recorded from the surrounding area.
Three trenches measuring 10m in length were excavated within the area of construction as well as test pits in an area proposed for the percolation tank. Potential archaeological features were investigated in order to determine their nature and origin. Nothing of archaeological significance was recorded during this testing phase.
