Test trenching was carried out at the site of the proposed Carlow Vocational School and Carlow Institute of Further Education, a 4.45 ha green-field site in Mortarstown Upper, Co. Carlow. Eight test trenches totalling 1200m were excavated within the site following a geophysical survey. Topsoil was shallow and quite uniform, generally less than 0.25m across the area. Subsoil was grey brown sandy clay with frequent angular stones and frequent modern pottery sherds and glass shards. No archaeological finds or features were recorded.
