An archaeological evaluation was carried out prior to the phased construction of a residential development on lands opposite Glenfall Cottages, Glenfall Road, Glenoe, Larne.
This evaluation is concerned with part of Phase 2 of the residential development (see plate). The topsoil was removed using a back-acting machine fitted with a toothless bucket. Approximately 0.2-0.3m of topsoil was removed before naturally occurring subsoil was exposed. The subsoil consisted of a compact, mottled orange/brown plastic clay. A storm drain was identified extending roughly east-west across this section of the site. The subsoil on either side of the drain displayed evidence of disturbance and there was frequent inclusions of modern building materials pressed into it.
No evidence of any archaeological features or deposits was identified during the topsoil removal.
