An archaeological evaluation was carried out prior to the proposed construction of a housing development on lands between 1 and 2a Lurgan Road, Aghagallon.
A total of 6 test trenches were excavated across the site using a back-acting machine fitted with a toothless bucket. In all trenches, a single layer of topsoil was removed. This had an average depth of 0.4m and directly overlay naturally occurring subsoil, which consisted of an orange, plastic clay with frequent stone inclusions. A large number of modern field drains cut into the subsoil were identified within all trench.
No evidence of any archaeological deposits was identified during the course of the evaluation.
