Archaeological testing was undertaken at 63 Moira Road, Crumlin, Co. Antrim. Prior to the test trenching, it was known that the proposed development area contained a recorded monument: an undated enclosure (ANT059:136) to the west of the development area, identified from an aerial photograph.

A total of eight trenches, measuring 660 linear metres, were excavated across the western section off the proposed development over the course of two days from September 17 2014. The aim of this testing was to locate the undated enclosure identified as a crop mark through aerial photography, and establish if significant archaeological deposits were present.

Archaeological features were identified across the area concentrated in Trenches 1, 2, 5, 6, 7 & 8. The archaeology in Trenches 1 & 2 consisted of a large pit and associated linear, circular and oval features. The archaeology in Trenches 5-8 was defined by a series of linear ditches and gullies and associated circular and oval features.

The identified archaeological resource is located at an average depth of 0.31m below the ground surface.
