Monitoring took place between 3 and 8 May 2013 of Site Investigation works carried out by RPS Consulting Engineers on behalf of Wicklow County Council in advance of a watermain rehabilitation project on an existing road west of Lackan, Co. Wicklow.

The watermain rehabilitation project will take place along an existing road which runs west of the village of Lackan, following the Lake Drive which overlooks the Poulaphouca reservoir. It passes through a landscape rich in archaeological heritage. This route passes by a total of sixty-four recorded monuments within a 2km radius, several of which are in very close proximity to the route. Located notably close to the route are a standing stone, a wedge tomb, two bullaun stones, a hut site and two enclosures.

The works involved the excavation of twenty-one slit trenches along the route of the rehab works, six of which were monitored, photographed and recorded. No finds or features of archaeological significance were exposed in any of the trenches.
