Monitoring took place between 1 and 6 May 2013 of Site Investigation works carried out by RPS Consulting Engineers on behalf of Wicklow County Council in advance of a watermain rehabilitation project on Lake Drive, just east of and across the water from Blessington in the townlands of Knockieran Upper and Lower.
Lake Drive overlooks the Poulaphouca reservoir and passed through a landscape rich in archaeological heritage. This route passed by a total of seventy-four recorded monuments within a 2km radius. The closest monuments to the route were a standing stone and ringfort at a distance of 300m.
The works involved the excavation of seven slit trenches along the route of the rehab works, four of which were monitored and recorded. No finds or features of archaeological significance were exposed in any of the trenches.
