The proposed development, in a green field site on the outskirts of Greystones, Co. Wicklow, will comprise of a split level, post-primary school with associated recreational facilities, playing pitches, parking spaces, access roads, etc. with a total combined floor area of c. 7997 sq m. A redundant archaeological site comprising a possible earthwork was previously assessed by Martin Byrne in the easternmost portion of the site. Byrne did not find any evidence of the earthwork feature.
A total of 12 test trenches were excavated by machine across the site. No features of archaeological potential were identified during the assessment. Most of the eastern extent of the site had been used as a dump and the original ground level was roughly 1m below the existing ground level. A number of modern drainage features were noted in several of the cuttings.
