Monitoring took place between 3 and 8 July 2013 of Site Investigation works carried out for RPS Consulting Engineers on behalf of Wicklow County Council in advance of a watermain rehabilitation project in the village of Avoca through the townlands of Kilmagig Upper, Kilmagig Lower and Ballyanagh.
The route passed by a total of twenty-four recorded monuments within a 2km radius. The closest monuments are part of an ecclesiastical site within 380–450m south-west of the watermain route.
The works involved the excavation of twenty-three slit trenches along the route of the rehab works, thirteen of which were monitored and recorded. The works were carried out to locate the watermain and any additional services in proximity to it.
No finds or features of archaeological significance were exposed in any of the trenches.
