In the confines of the site, which fronts onto the line of the town wall of New Ross, no archaeological features were encountered during the testing, in which all 4 trenches showed a stony silty soil over bedrock, which was on average 0.4m below the surface.
The testing confirmed a complete paucity of archaeological remains. Despite the existence of a section of the wall further downhill on Lower William Street, its survival in this area is at present still unconfirmed. The monitoring of the main drainage in this street reported a sighting of the wall near the junction with Priory Street (95E0086), but no sighting of it was reported in this area. The line of the town wall may well be underneath the boundary of the site, but this will not be impacted upon by the proposed building. It is clear from the cartographic evidence that the site has been free of buildings apparently from the mid-17th century.
