Testing for the site of a proposed new school in Rathwire, Co. Westmeath was carried out in a 1.62ha green field. Ten trenches with a total length of 706m were excavated. Subsoil consisted of coarse sand and gravel with patches of a mid to light orange brown stiff clay. No archaeological features were recorded.
