Monitoring was undertaken during the topsoil stripping of land at the north side of the proposed Garrycastle bridge re-alignment scheme, in those areas between chainages 480-590 and chainages 410-440. The majority of re-alignment route was test trenched by Tempus Archaeology in 2009 (licence no. 09E0440). Monitored areas were inaccessible at the time of testing. The area to the north of the railway line was stripped revealing a 0.5m depth of sod and topsoil overlying the sandy natural subsoil. Areas stripped to the south of the railway line were located in the rear gardens of adjacent dwellings. Nothing of an archaeological nature was noted.
