Testing was carried out for site investigations for the West Waterford WSS River Finisk (Ballyhane) and Ballintoor Borehole and Reservoir sites. The site was on the Kilcannon/Knocknacroogha Lower townland boundary where a high bank is lined with trees and bushes. A ditch drops below the bank to the east and this is bounded by the road. A gap is therefore formed by the space between the townland boundary and the road and this widens to the north. A wall traverses the ditch east to west and this short wall would seem to be located on the 1907 OS six inch map but not that of 1842. A seemingly large number of stones covered the ground of the site around this wall and would not appear to be modern. This stone was not explained by the existing wall as it appeared to be spread out over the area of the site. No structure was recorded on the OS maps and therefore it was considered to warrant some further investigation, given the position and archaeological potential of the site.
The stone features turned out to be a large field drains. No archaeological sites or finds or features of archaeological came to light. Monitoring during development has been recommended.
