Waterford County Council propose to commission a new water supply for the Ballyhane area. A new pump house, 11m x 4m, is proposed to be constructed at the River Finisk. This construction will have a tarmacadam access road, a 4m wide access gate and a tarmacadam turning area.

In addition Waterford County Council propose to construct a new 300m3 ground level storage reservoir for the Ballyhane area which will be located to the south-east of the borehole and pump house. A tarmacadam hard standing road will be provided between the reservoir site and the public access road. Some of the access road will be constructed in the existing adjacent forest area which will require some tree clearance. From both these sites, pipe lines will extend to the junction of the N72.

At Ballintoor, the proposed development is at an earlier stage. A proposed borehole and pump house as well as a proposed 400m3 is located in the same area with a proposed land acquisition of 1550m2. From this a proposed 200mm pipe will extend 2km to the junction of the N25 at Cushcam.

The archaeological work consisted of monitoring the digging of test pits, 2m x 2m over the Ballyhane and Ballintoor areas, and slit trenches across the narrow Knocknacroogha road. Slit trenches across the Ballintoor road were not monitored in this case as the road to be tested was mainly constructed in the late 19th/early 20th century and was not in an area of archaeological potential.

No archaeological sites or finds or features of archaeological came to light.
