Testing and subsequent monitoring was carried out on in advance, and during the course of groundworks at Killenaule, South Tipperary, in the vicinity of TS054-001, 002 and 003 (church and graveyard) and TS054-050 (castle-motte). The work was part of the South Tipperary Water Conservation Scheme, Stage 3: Network Rehabilitation, Fethard RWSS-Contract No.3.
Testing and monitoring were carried out along the line of the pipeline on River Street in Killenaule and in other areas in the village in advance of service installation. The trench ran the length of the proposed pipeline within the zone of archaeological potential along the northern verge of the roadway.
Testing exposed a very compact mid brown silty clay and bedrock underlying the road base. A number of modern service trenches were encountered including a culvert, however no finds or features of archaeological significance were noted.
