A single trench was excavated by hand on the projected line of the medieval town wall of Cashel in the garden of the Bishop’s Palace. The wall was encountered at a depth of 0.4m below modern ground level. Sherds of tin-glazed earthenware, and salt-glazed stoneware, indicating a date in the 18th century, were present in the lower part of the topsoil. A thin layer of rooted lime mortar and soil overlay the levelled surface of the wall.
