Following an assessment of the proposed impact of an extension to the existing Tailings Management Facility (TMF) in Lisheen Mine, 16 archaeological sightings were recorded in June 2013 (see 13E059). A programme of excavation was carried out between July and September 2013 which resulted in the excavation of these 16 sites and a further 28 sites which were identified during the course of excavation.

Site 58 consisted of a north-south oriented platform. It had two layers of roundwood and brushwood below and on top. They were imbedded each in layers of twigs and leaf material, possibly derived from trees used in structure, forming a kind of platform in a hollow, east of burnt mound Site 55. The roundwoods were possibly a first attempt at forming a solid surface with a later attempt to repair the hollow noted.

Preliminary samples recovered from the platform returned two dates, 1406-1223 BC (UBA 25569) and 1260-1054 BC (UBA25570).
