Following an assessment of the proposed impact of an extension to the existing Tailings Management Facility (TMF) in Lisheen Mine 16 archaeological sightings were recorded in June 2013 (see 13E059). A program of excavation was carried out between July and September 2013 which resulted in the excavation of these 16 sites and a further 28 sites which were identified during the course of excavation.
Similar to 13LIS-001 and located c. 4m north of 13LIS-001, this brushwood hurdle had small roundwoods at either end and was in good preservation. Densely packed interwoven brushwood rods running north-south and sails running east-west. The hurdle track was traced for 22m. It was located in laminated fen peats with bog bean and much reed material present.
Preliminary dating from samples taken from the platform returned two dates, 357-355 BC (UBA 25562) and 390-206 BC (UBA 25563).
This site was fully resolved and no further archaeological mitigation is required.
