Test excavation was undertaken in advance of extension to Kilcommon Community Centre, between 15 and 23 April 2013. The project involved mechanical excavation of four test trenches to assess potential for subsurface archaeology. The development was situated within close proximity to a possible medieval church (TI039-00601?) and a graveyard (TI039-00602?). The area encompassed a 180m² area.
The trenches achieved depths consistent with the naturally occurring sandy marl. The overburden comprised a lens of topsoil, mill waste and tarmac. Two stone- lined late 19th-century drainage culverts were encountered as well as a garden wall of the same period. No archaeology was encountered.
