Castlerea GAA Club proposes to make a new pitch on a green-field site that is part of a public park, overlooking the Francis River. Testing in March 2013 opened seven trenches. A stone-lined drain was uncovered in one instance. The drain was located in a linear sunken feature that crosses the site. The linear feature forms a distinct complex across the development area, and represents the route of a relict boundary and drainage network. Pottery and brick observed indicate a c. 19th-century date for the drain’s construction. The top surface of the drain was exposed and recorded.
