Testing took placeof a proposed road realignment of the N12 at Killeef and Tamlat townlands, between Monaghan Town and Middletown, Co. Armagh. A total of 14 trenches, amounting to 670m were excavated to the level of subsoil. No finds or features of an archaeological nature were uncovered. One of the project aims was to assess any remains from the former Ulster Canal which will be impacted by the road. The canal channel was found to be completely destroyed leaving nothing but disturbed embankment material. The apparent channel crop-mark visible in a previous walkover was determined to be a deposit of stone and red brick.
