2013:420 - ATHBOY: Townparks, Meath

Testing took place of a proposed soccer pitch and facilities on a 4.32ha green-field site north-east of Athboy. A geophysical survey (gradiometer scan and targeted detailed survey) of the site (11R102) identified a number of responses that were interpreted as potentially of archaeological significance. Six trenches with a total length of 475m were subsequently excavated and targeted potential features. Subsoil varied across the site from peat with underlying natural grey marl to brown stony clay, grey-brown gravel and localised pockets of sand. No archaeological features were recorded.
