Testing was carried out at Boyne Community School, Dublin Road, Trim, Co. Meath prior to the construction of a new single storey autism unit and associated facilities. Testing was not requested in the grant of permission but was requested by the Department of Education in advance of construction. The site is located within the curtilage of a protected structure Reg. No. MH036-120 (NIAH Reg. No. 14328020) and is located south-east of the historic town of Trim (ME036-048). The proposed new structure will be located south of the existing school structures.
The site was assessed on 6 December 2013. Two trenches were excavated across the footprint of the proposed new building by a mechanical excavator working under supervision. The topsoil was removed onto a natural gravel at 0.3-0.4m. No features or deposits of archaeological significance were identified and no finds were recovered.
