Monitoring of groundworks in advance of the construction of cattle sheds and associated slurry holding tanks was in line with conditions attached to the planning permission granted for the development. Monitoring took place at the site over two phases in August 2013 and January 2014.
The site is located in Slane townland on the north side of the River Boyne close to the shoulder of the valley. It is approximately 1km to the east of the village of Slane and within 1km of the western edge of the buffer zone of the Brú na Bóinne World Heritage Site. In total, approximately 250m2 of topsoil were stripped. Nothing of archaeological significance was noted during the stripping.
