It is proposed to extend a large gravel quarry at Glencastle, Bunnahowen, Belmullet, which has been in use for up to 50 years. The area is green field, roughly 100m by 100m, and nearby are an inland promontory fort containing a later castle (MA017-012) at 400m to north-north-east; a children's burial ground (MA017-009) on a low platform of probable earlier date located 550m to north and a cross-inscribed pillar stone (MA017-008) on the roadside 300m to north-north-west, with two large boulders on the opposite side of the road classified as a possible megalithic tomb (MA017-007).

Nothing of archaeological significance turned up from nine pre-development test trenches opened. The bases of three modern field drains were exposed with modern pottery and large amounts of natural white quartz. Boulder clay was grey gravel throughout.
